I have yet to choose a palette, but I have decided this much:

• Black text on white background for the content area
• Conventional-ish link colours (I have tinted them a bit)

I also intend to come up with a colour legend for:

• External links
• Non-HTML links (e.g. PDF)

I am not especially dying to use icons for this.
