The purpose of a scenario is to expose individuals' interactions with a potential software product. This generates questions of feasibility, viability and desirability, and affords an architect to refine his or her understanding of the situation. A scenario will typically contain several distinct interactions which can be identified and extracted.

A scenario is similar to a use case in that it is a short narrative describing an interaction with a product. The cardinal difference is that rather than using actors that effectively appear out of nowhere, scenarios make use of personae. A scenario will typically contain details not essential to the interaction itself, but instead set the mood and the tone.
